Verbatim is a highly respected brand of optical discs – they supply virtually every sort and were a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, thus their discs are almost all MCC products. This section looks at the DVD+RW and DVD-RW offerings.

Their minus format offering has a pink colour to it. A warning is put on the front in regards to drive speeds as is customary for minus format discs. The MID is MCC 01RW4X. Their marketing “vehicle” is the concept of a “Super-Eutectic Recording Layer” or “SERL” for short. To most consumers, this isn’t particularly meaningful, and I’m not even sure if something can be “Super-Eutectic”. Maybe it’s trying to describe its eutectic point behaviour as being somehow superior to other materials.

The plus format shares much of the same design with the exception of the use of the colour green as opposed to pink. This also carries the SERL marking. The MID is MKM-A02 where MKM presumably stands for Mitsubishi Kagaku Media.
